Laodabao Scenic Area
Laodabao Scenic Area is located in Lancang Lahu Autonomous County, Yunnan Province, approximately 42 kilometers southeast of the county seat. It was officially designated as a National 4A-level Tourist Attraction on October 26, 2022.
The area is renowned for its rich Lahu ethnic culture and traditions, making it an important site for the preservation of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. It serves as a hub for the protection and transmission of the “Mupa Mipa” (牡帕密帕) folk song and the “Lusheng Dance” (芦笙舞)—two key elements of the Lahu people’s cultural heritage.
In recent years, the villagers of Laodabao have created nearly 300 songs, with hits like “Happy Lahu” and “I Can’t Let Go” gaining widespread recognition. Their performances of Lahu ethnic original songs, dance, guitar playing, and especially their multi-part unaccompanied choirs, have captivated audiences across the country, making appearances on various national platforms, including CCTV. Known for their exceptional talent in both singing and dancing, the people of Laodabao shine in traditional Lusheng and swing dances, as well as their unique style of unaccompanied harmony singing. Although they often perform without musical accompaniment, their most outstanding feature remains their guitar playing and singing, establishing Laodabao Village as a true “village of music.” The village has also become a notable destination for variety shows like “Sister’s Music Love Journey” and “Amazing Village,” both of which have been recorded here.
Beyond its musical prowess, Laodabao is home to a wealth of intangible cultural heritage. Local women can often be seen at work on traditional Lahu weaving machines, creating intricately woven costumes, head wear, bags, and other handmade crafts that showcase the deep cultural roots of the community.
