Qinghai occupies much of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau, where high-altitude grasslands, salt lakes and vast mountain ranges shape the landscape. The province is also the source region of several major Asian rivers, and its communities include Tibetan, Mongolian and Hui populations whose cultures have developed around life at high altitude.
