Zixi Mountain Forest Park is the largest natural park in Yunnan Province, located southwest of Chuxiong City. It is approximately 20 kilometers from the city center, along the 320 National Highway. The park covers an area of 16,000 hectares, with a forest coverage rate of 96%. The main peak reaches an elevation of 2,500 meters. The park is known for its rich biodiversity and scenic landscapes, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and tourists.

The Zixi Mountain Nature Reserve, which includes notable peaks such as Zijin Mountain, Wansong Ridge, and Tiger Mountain, features a diverse landscape with steep cliffs and deep valleys. The central area of the reserve is marked by tall, rounded peaks and gentle ridges, while the surrounding terrain is characterized by deep cuts and steep slopes. The overall shape of the mountain range resembles a lying lion, with its head to the south and tail to the north, presenting a majestic and lifelike profile.

Located about 15 kilometers west of Chuxiong city, the Zixi Mountain Forest Park can be accessed by a winding asphalt road. The area is renowned for its impressive mountain scenery, lush forests, and vibrant flora, especially the Ma Yinghua flowers which bloom in winter and spring, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding greenery.
The reserve also serves as an important water source for the city, with nearly pristine water quality due to the absence of pollution. The park is dotted with eight lakes, and several waterfalls, including the two-tiered waterfall at Xiangshuiqiao, add to the natural beauty. Numerous springs that have flowed continuously for centuries contribute to the area’s reputation for abundant, fresh water.

The landscape is further enriched by numerous small, winding streams that flow through rocky gorges, producing a soothing sound and creating picturesque scenes. The streams and waterfalls, often surrounded by lush greenery and fragrant flowers, create an idyllic and peaceful atmosphere, making Zixi Mountain a prime location for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
Zixi Mountain, once a renowned Buddhist holy site in central Yunnan, is home to numerous ancient temples. Historically, it was famous for having 66 forests, 77 temples, and 88 shrines, though many were destroyed over time. The largest remaining temple in the region is Ziding Temple, located on the mountain. Zixi Mountain boasts several scenic spots such as the Immortal Valley, Wansong Forest, De Yun Stele, and Songhe Forest, as well as artificial gardens like the 1,200-acre camellia garden and 1,500-acre rhododendron garden. The mountain is especially vibrant with blooming flowers, including camellias and prunus mume, during the Chinese New Year period, drawing many tourists.
