Lufeng Dinosaur Valley Fossil Museum
The Lufeng Dinosaur Valley Fossil Museum is the largest dinosaur fossil museum in China, composed of two main sections: the Introductory Hall and the Main Hall.
Introductory Hall
Covering 3,500 square meters, the Introductory Hall is dedicated to providing an in-depth and engaging experience of dinosaur knowledge. Main Hall
The Main Hall, covering 10,000 square meters with 8,500 square meters of indoor space, is a frame-based preservation building that houses one of the world’s most extraordinary geological wonders. The hall presents a complete geological cross-section from the Late Jurassic period, approximately 160 million years ago. This section, which is tilted at a 25-degree angle, 15 meters high, 40 meters wide, and 83 meters long, preserves a unique fossil graveyard. The exposed fossilized remains are found within a 380-square-meter area, offering a rare glimpse into the prehistoric world.
Dragon Pillars Soaring to the Sky
The Dragon Pillars Soaring to the Sky is the first iconic landmark at the Lufeng Dinosaur Valley. Four towering pillars, each 28 meters high, stand proudly at the entrance. The bases are made of Han white jade, while the columns are in a rich bronze color, intricately carved with 240 dinosaur species discovered from around the world. The structure exudes grandeur and brilliance, perfectly complementing the surrounding red-layered landscape. This magnificent scene has become a symbol of the Kunming-Dali-Lijiang Golden Tourist Route and a remarkable architectural landmark.
Dinosaur Valley Base Camp
The Dinosaur Valley Base Camp is an interactive center dedicated to dinosaur education. It provides an immersive experience where visitors can explore the evolution of life on Earth. The museum offers detailed exhibits on the three major eras of dinosaur life—Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous—with displays showcasing the landscapes, plants, and animals of these periods. Transportation
From Kunming city center, visitors can drive to the park in about 90 minutes or use public transportation. For public transit, take a train to Lufeng South Station, then transfer to Bus 10, which stops directly at the park entrance.
