Jiaozi Snow Mountain
The Jiaozi Snow Mountain is one of Kunming Prefecture’s highest peaks (4223m) and is situated in a protected scenic area of Luquan Yi and Miao Autonomous County, close to the border to Sichuan. Jiaozi Mountain derives its name from its resemblance to a traditional Chinese sedan (轿子). Since the road connecting Kunming City with this 250 square kilometer big scenic area has been reconstructed in 2011, it can be reached conveniently within less than 3 hours (about 160km).
The Jiaozi Snow Mountain is a snow-covered mountain with the lowest latitude in Yunnan (from early autumn to late spring). It has unique natural landscapes. The numerous azalea flowers bloom in April and May, its alpine lakes and meadows make it dazzle with charm. Located between the Xiaojiang fault belt and Pudu River fault belt, Jiaozi Mountain’s climate changes rapidly due to the combination of its unique geological structure, the complex landforms and the high altitude. It is famous for its frozen lakes and waterfalls during winter season, beautiful sunrises and so called Buddha’s lights.
Jiaozi Snow Mountain -轿子雪山 got the name because it’s shaped like a sedan chair which located at the junction of Luquan and Dongchuang. Its altitude is 4247 meters above sea level. In the past call it an old snow mountain, in 784, King of Nan Zhao (Tang dynasty 618-907) give the name The Highest Mountain in East Yunnan.
The Jiao Zi Snow Mountain -轿子雪山 is composed of Jiaozi Mountain, Chess Mountain, East Ying Mountain, and Guanyin Mountain. The main peak is 4223.4 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in Central Yunnan. It is a typical glacial mountain landscape in Yunnan.
Yi – 彝 minority people living nearby, so it also the holy mountain of Yi people. The ancestors of the Yi believe that there are three souls after human death, one goes to hell, one stays at the grave and another one backs to the birthplace of the ancestral land. Along with the Fa Ga Mountain- 法嘎山 of Jiao Zi Mountain to the heaven can bless their offspring. According to Yi People’s ancient book “Zhi Lu Jing – 指路经”, Jiao Zi Snow Mountain is one of the birthplaces of Yi People and also the heaven of Yi People’s soul so here is the holy mountain of Yi.

Si Fang Jing
The first scenic spot is named Si Fang Jing – 四方景. In this square platform, looking around, the sky is wide and vast, the valley of Pudu River just like under your feet, Wumeng terraces clear and splendid. Every year in April, the ice and snow are melt, the spring breeze blowing, the azalea blossom here like the flower ocean.
Xia Ping Zi
Here is located in the core area of the sedan mountain, which is a natural platform shaped by the snow mountain stream. It is located in the lower part of Huaxi, with an elevation about 3500 meters above sea level. It is the terminal station of the jiaozi snow mountain tourist line, build a Huaxi Timber House Hotel and the cableway leading to Da Hei Jing – 大黑箐. Here are many routes to reach the mountain top. Rhododendron, alpine bamboo, stream and waterfall are the four characteristics of the Xia Ping Zi scenic area.
Hua Xi
Comes from the sedan Tianshan lake, the water is cool all year round without any dust. In the summertime, walking around Ha Xi the flower fall from the wind, steams flow away, a wonderful fairyland is here.
Waterfall Group
There are many waterfalls in the Jiao Zi Snow Mountain (sedan chair mountain), which are concentrated in the area of Da He Qing, Huaxi, Moon Rock. Its notable feature is changing with seasons. Waterfall in spring and summer, icefall in autumn and winter, and the “Rock Fall” in the dry season are the famous “Three Waterfall” landscape of the Jiao Zi Snow Mountain (sedan chair mountain).
