Feilai Temple

Feilai Temple is a temple along Yunnan-Tibet Highway located 8 kilometers away from Deqin County in Yunnan Province. It was originally built in the 42nd year of Ming Wanli (1614 AD) and has a history of nearly 390 years. Feilai Temple covers an area of 1500 square meters and was built according to the mountainous terrain of Zhengyi Mountain. Along the way, the ancient Songsen column, the sun shadow is mottled, the creek is twisted, and Song Tao is low. The mountain gate couplet “The ancient temple has no lights and moonlight, the mountain gate does not lock the temple and the cloud is sealed”, which makes people imagine.

The buildings of Feilai temple are scattered in high and low, and the buildings of the palace and hall should cooperate with each other. The whole temple is composed of he descendants’ hall, Guan Sheng’s hall, Hai Chao Hall, hatchback, two ears, and four matching halls. The arrangement in the temple is characterized by the integration of three religions. The most amazing thing is the sculpture art of Haichao hall, the main body of Feilai temple. The main hall is of single eave suspended on the top of the mountain, seven sandalwood lifting beam structure, three rooms wide, the whole beam, the beam frame is regular, which is composed of large garden wood, the cornice head is simple and sparse, the eaves column stands on a huge xumizuo column base, and the waist of the seat is engraved with relief patterns of figures, flowers and other patterns. Under the eaves, the wood carvings are soft and beautiful, quiet and unique. The lattice fans in front of the palace are complete, the lattice patterns are exquisite, and the sculptors are skilled and refined.

Legend Culture

There is a legendary story about the construction and naming of the temple: when the temple was built, the site was originally located two kilometers away from the site, and all the materials had been prepared. On the night before the groundbreaking, the main building materials such as columns and beams disappeared, and the abbot and the monk sent people to trace them. When we found the site, we found that the columns and beams had been erected according to the specifications, and there was no rear column of the main hall. People thought that it was God’s will, so we built the temple on the site according to God’s will, and because of the columns and beams flying to stand on our own, it was named “flying to the temple”. Today, standing at the edge of Douwen Village and watching the Feilai Temple, there is indeed a tendency to fly. The ancient temples appearing in the mountains, the dense forests, and the clouds and mist, there is a posture of cutting the clouds and breaking the fog, and there is a more solid and unchanging shadow.
